The Conjuring

All too often, we hear Hollywood claim “Based on a True Story” – this usually means that someone saw a glass fall off an old shelf and decided to make up a story about it, and take lots and lots of liberties. Far less common is a telling of an actual “True Story” that also happens to be a ghost story.. This is one of those rare cases.

Elquinjena and I had been fans of “Paranormal State”, a TV show which followed a team of college students who investigated paranormal phenomena. It was here that we were first introduced to Lorraine Warren – clairvoyant. Of all the TV psychics we’ve ever seen, she seemed to be one of the most genuine and honest.

Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.

Though, I did have a few “Eye Rolling” moments, where I’m sure the director took some artistic liberty (for the sake of ticket sales). I found this movie to be very well done, and worth the admission price, and dvd purchase. Director, James Wan, filmed in a style befitting a 1970’s style, and I feel that it brought a very creepy vibe to the experience. So, should  you see this movie? Go for it! it’s Jethal Approved!

Here are a few little tidbits..

  1. Lorraine and Ed Warren where the paranormal investigators for one of the most famous hauntings in US History, when they braved the house located at 112 Ocean Avenue, Amityville NY – the location of the case now known as “The Amityville Horror
  2. The doll, called “Annabelle” was not a spooky, messed up china-doll as appeared in he movie.. but was actually a Raggedy-Ann doll.
  3. Lorraine Warren has a cameo in the movie. During a “Demonic Possession” seminar, she can be seen in the front row of the classroom.
