Using a special camera that can see spirits, a family must protect their daughter from an evil entity with a sinister plan.

So, it’s come full circle, and Paranormal Activity comes to an end with the final installment of the franchise. Thank Gawd.

Look, the first movie was scary, it was a phenomenon of the independent film scene in the horror genre. Found footage of, what could have been, a real demonic haunting. Since then, many have tried to recreate the feel, none have been successful.. most notably, the sequels in the franchise.

As far as visuals go, this was very well done,  thanks to Industrial Light and Magic. The acting was good.. the story had some to be desired, but after all; the franchise ran out of steam a while back and I dont think that there’s much they could have done about it.

The tagline for this installment is “For the first time, you will see the activity”. I didn’t want to see it. The more you show, the less it becomes believable. And, that’s what made the first one so great, you never saw what was causing the disturbances. A slight door creek here, a subtle movement that you may or may not see, there.. ghost story creepiness comes from slight and obscure events that make you wonder.. “did I just see that? you saw that too, right?”.

Now, what I would have done with the franchise, would be: all stand alone movies. As it stands, every film is tied into another in some way, so you really can’t watch one by itself and get the whole story. Different towns, new people, different hauntings.. kind of what The Conjuring is now doing.
