So, I just came back from the Theater, seeing “Mad Max: Fury Road” and I have to say that I was not disappointed. The action was fast and fierce, and pretty much non-stop. Acting was over the top, but that’s to be expected with a post-apocalyptic movie, so.. well done. The story is a little out there. Not the main story, but some of the sub plots.
- Immortan Joe is the leader of a settlement in the wasteland. In charge of everything, he only releases water when needed to quell an uprising. This in itself is not strange for this type of movie.. and honestly, rationing a scarce resource, such as water, is smart. We don’t know how much water is in the reserves, do we?
- Joe also has a harem of sorts. A half dozen beautiful young women to bare his children. Also not strange for this type of movie. Also brings a pack mentality, much like a pride of lions, where the dominant male is the only one allowed to mate.
- Joe also has a.. milk farm?? A team of lactating women supply milk.. which it seems gets traded to other nearby settlements in exchange for other goods, such as gas and ammunition.
There is also a force of “war boys” – young men, painted white, who seem to be kept in fairly good shape so they can protect the stronghold. To get them into a battle-rage state of mind, they are huffing paint. Chrome paint.. I suppose it could be symbolic of Chroming your Grill (automotive reference).
Now, there has been some controversy surrounding a “Feminist Plotline”. And it’s not as bad as people make it out to be.. however, I can understand how some men’s groups would be offended by the use of lines, like…
- Men killed the world
- Men are an Anti-Seed: Plant one and everything dies.
Think about it this way. These are women saying this. Women who have been enslaved by men (or A man, in this case). I would have a bad thing or two to say about the gender who slaved me, too. So, I’m not gonna blow that way out of proportion and say that there is an anti-male feeling to the movie, like some have. Yes, those sayings where offensive to a certain degree.. but isn’t enslaving women for breeding and milk production, essentially making them cattle, offensive as well? That’s my opinion.
On with my thoughts.
FINALLY!! We have a movie that explains where the music comes from, during a car chase! They brought their own band! Drum players and a heavy metal guitarist lead the charge, although I have to question if you could really hear anything over the roar of the engines.
Issue.. If oil is so scarce.. why is everyone using flame throwers to shoot fire into the air for no reason?? That’s an awful waste of petro, don’t you think?
One of the war boys, “Nox” is after them, shooting, trying to disable their truck, locks the brakes on the rig.. then is found, hiding on the rig by one of the girls.. and she falls in love with him.. Really?? Oh come on!! Why the hell did their have to be any sort of romance sub plot in this movie at all? Especially the guy who was trying to take you back to your “owner”? Give me a break.
Over-all, I really enjoyed myself. Other than getting a cramp in my right calf, I had a good time. There is something about an action film that gets the blood pumping.
OH.. that reminds me.. How the hell does Max know how to do a transfusion? I’m not a doctor, but I think there’s more to it than just hooking up a tube with a needle at either end.. isn’t there a pump system of some kind? Just don’t think that would work.
