Artemis Fowl ★★☆☆☆

Artemis Fowl, a young criminal prodigy, hunts down a secret society of fairies to find his missing father.

I will preface this by stating that I did not read the books. That being said..
this movie was a train wreck

The CGI work was very good for the most part, but that’s honestly the only thing I can positively say for the work, overall.

It’s been noted by many that this was Ferdia Shaw (Artemus) first movie.. I’m sorry but it shows. He’s honestly not very good. His delivery is stiff and lacking emotion. Perhaps in time he’ll become someone great, but he definitely needs more experience before taking another leading role.

The story is a mess, and from what I’m told, doesn’t follow the book very well. And in my opinion, Artemus is a completely unlikable character. And I doubt that has anything to do with Ferdia Shaw, but more to do with the writing.

I’m pretty sure that the rumors about Dame Judy Dench’s agent hating her is true. I usually like her performances – she did the best she could, I’m sure.

Oh, and you know what we didn’t need? Voice over exposition throughout a third of the movie, telling us how cleaver, great and intelligent Artemus is.. I hated him before he ever got on screen.

Should you watch this travesty of a movie? Meh, do what you want, it’s on Disney Plus, so it’s not like you’re actually paying to see it.
