Howling (The)

Television newswoman Karen White takes some much-needed time off after a traumatic incident with a serial killer. Hoping to conquer her inner demons, she heads for The Colony, a secluded retreat where the creepy residents are a little too eager to make her feel at home.

Along with An American Werewolf in London, The Howling ushered in a new age of werewolf movies, introducing us to the Lycanthrope. The story and acting are very good, for a B Movie, and the creature designs were very frightening for the time. Although a pivotal breakthrough in transformation sequences, I found the over-use of “bladders” almost comical in a film that was supposed to be a pure horror.

I also wasn’t overly found of the ending.. throughout the length of the film, the werewolves were scary and mean looking, then at the end.. our protagonist turns into.. a Were-Pomeranian? Yeah, I wasn’t pleased with that one.
