Cymothoa exigua, or the tongue-eating louse, is a parasitic crustacean of the family Cymothoidae. This parasite enters fish through the gills, and then attaches itself to the fish’s tongue. These things started showing up in the real world, in fish, a few years ago. Someone thought to themselves.. Hey, this is creepy has hell, let’s make a movie about these things latching on to people! And “The Bay” was was hatched into the video world… much to my amazement.
SO.. this girl who works at a local TV station is covering a county faire when all this goes down, and decides that she’s the one to break this story. The next 84 minutes is a shakey-cam hell, and horrible acting by the main character.. some of the secondary actors weren’t bad at all.. but seriously, this girl is just awful. Or, perhaps she’s only pretending to be awful to “act” like she’s a newbie news reporter.. either way, i wanted to stab myself in the ear with an icepick.
The so-called CDC is preposterously inept, the story would have been OK if handled by a better writing staff.. and better actors.. and a better director.. god, ya know, I didnt like 95% of this movie at all. I feel bad for some of the people involved, really.
My advice is stay far away from this one. I mean, I LIKE bad horror movies, and found this to be almost unwatchable.
