Rogue One

Jyn Erso, a Rebellion soldier and criminal, is about to experience her biggest challenge yet when Mon Mothma sets her out on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star. With help from the Rebels, a master swordsman, and non-allied forces, Jyn will be in for something bigger than she thinks.

If “The Force Awakens” made you cheer, Rogue One will make you do cartwheels in the aisles. But, don’t.. because you’ll want to watch the movie, and not get thrown out of the theater.

Rogue One is a direct, and immediate prequel to “A New Hope”, more on that below. The action is great, the story is good, the acting was spot on, and I feel that any Star Wars fan will be glad to own it, when it comes out on disc.

And now, with that being said…

When I said a “Direct and Immediate prequel” I meant it.. the film ends just where A New Hope begins. Complete with CG Princess Leia (more the point, CG young Carrie Fisher’s face added to the body of actress Ingvild Deila) receiving the stolen plans to the Death Star, on board her ship.

Let’s talk CG for a minute.. because, I have to be honest here. CG (face added again) Grand Moff Tarkin, was not great. My wife and I agree that he almost looks like he belonged in a video game cut scene, rather than in 4k on the big screen. The head was a little too big, and just seemed weird.

Call-backs galore! If you thought you could get away with a Star Wars movie without C3P0 and R2D2, you’re wrong! They make a very brief cameo around 2/3’s of the way through the movie. If you pay attention, you’ll find quite a few characters and droids with quick cameos, or just walking across the screen to get you a “Hey!” moment. Most notably, Cornelius Evazan, the disfigured roughian from the Creature Cantina (who has the Death Sentence on twelve systems), along with Ponda Baba (walrus man).

I gnit pick, but really, the movie was awesome on many many levels, and yes, I feel it superior to Force Awakens.

Definitely going in my collection.
