“REC” turns on a young TV reporter and her cameraman who cover the night shift at the local fire station. Receiving a call from an old lady trapped in her house, they reach her building to hear horrifying screams — which begin a long nightmare and a uniquely dramatic TV report.
Taking the movie for what it was set up to be (as I did with the Blair Witch Project) REC pulls off a scary movie with a very creepy final sequence. A young, late night, journalist follows a local fire department in a night of their duties, when they get a distress call from an apartment building. They find that an elderly woman has gone mad in her apartment, and as they try to help, she attacks – in a fashion we’ve now come to associate with the (movie world) “Rage” Virus.
I really think “Quarantine” is a better title for this movie.. which is what the american remake was called.
I think the only real issue I found, had to do with the english audio dub. Everyone sounded very inauthentic to an almost comical degree. As stated above, the final sequence of events makes the entire movie worth watching.. the strange woman, inhabiting the top floor of the building is creepy as hell.
A definite watch for horror fans.. I would also recommend checking out “Quarantine”, the american remake.
