The Brain that Wouldn’t Die

I thought this movie appropriate to review, considering the recent announcement of the (soon) head transplant experiment to take place in 2017.

A doctor experimenting with transplant techniques keeps his girlfriend’s head alive when she is decapitated in a car crash, then goes hunting for a new body.

This movie is pure, unadulterated early 60’s weirdness, back in the day with Science was stranger than fiction, and any sort of scifi movie would make the wildest claims imaginable. A man, keeping the decapitated head of his girlfriend alive in a casserole pan filled with fluid, with electrodes attached to her head. Brilliant! Oh, but the weirdness doesn’t end there..

The doctor’s strangest experiment lays in wait behind the locked door.. a hideous beast with a strange pointy head, ready to rip your arm off at a moment’s notice.

The acting was actually pretty good, despite the weird story.. and unusually bloody for a 60’s movie. (hey, a guy gets is arm ripped off, here!). Definitely a classic that’s earned a place in my library, though may not be to everyone’s tastes.
