The Raven

Dr Craven (Vincent Price) is approached by Dr Bedlo (Peter Lorre) has been turned into a raven by the evil Dr Scarabus (Boris Karloff), in this tale of betrayal, magic and grief, loosely (very loosely) based on the poem “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe.

This is a fun little movie if one is in the right mood for it.. but, this is certainly not one of Roger Corman’s best films.. certainly not a gem in the crown of this all star cast. The story has very little to do with Poe’s famous poem, outside of providing the name “Lenore” for Dr Craven’s late wife.

The effects are sub-par, even considering it was 1963, almost laughable, overlays and bad green screened mat paintings.

If nothing else, Jack Nicholson must be one of the only Hollywood Stars, still alive, who can claim to be in a movie with Karloff, Price and Lorre.
