A search for a winning lottery ticket in his dead father’s grave causes Sardonicus’ face to freeze in a horrible grimace, until he forces a doctor to treat his affliction–with even more grotesque results! The audience gets an opportunity to vote–via the “Punishment Poll”–for the penalty Sardonicus must pay for his deeds.
Really, the only thing I didn’t enjoy about this movie was.. William Castle. When he breaks in to administer the “Punishment Poll”.. is really ridiculous. Took away from the movie, and really interrupted the flow. Of course, we all know that there was only one ending shot for the film, and no matter how the audience voted, it was still “thumbs down” for Sardonicus.
Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy gimmick films, and wish I could find a theater that did them. But, Castle isn’t funny.. witty.. or even menacing. He’s just himself, and it’s kind of annoying. So.. the movie itself is good, except for that brief interruption by Castle.
