When a younger girl called Emily Rose dies, everyone puts blame on the exorcism which was performed on her by Father Moore prior to her death. The priest is arrested on suspicion of murder. The trail begins with lawyer Erin Bruner representing Moore, but it is not going to be easy, as no one wants to believe what Father Moore says is true. (Source: IMDB)
I’ve seen a lot of exorcism movies over the years, and most of them are complete trash.. the good ones, the ones that stay with you, are taken from authentic cases recorded by the Catholic Church.. the two of note are The Exorcist (1973), and The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005).
Whether or not you believe in Demonic Possession is immaterial. The ritual of Exorcism is a real practice, and is more a psychological shock to snap someone out of a psychosis, than a spiritual battle.. and in any case, this was a case of a Ritual Exorcism which ended in the death of Anneliese Michel, the girl portrayed as “Emily Rose” in this film.
This is one of the few times the disclaimer “Based on a true story” can be taken literally. Oh.. btw, this is Anneliese..
I love this movie. The acting by all involved is just great.. the ambiance is wonderful.. and the physical acting by Jennifer Carpenter is just fantastic. Yes, she did most of her own contortions. I would recommend this movie to any lovers of supernatural horror.
