In a cyberpunk vision of the future, man has developed the technology to create replicants, human clones used to serve in the colonies outside Earth but with fixed lifespans. In Los Angeles, 2019, Deckard is a Blade Runner, a cop who specializes in terminating replicants. Originally in retirement, he is forced to re-enter the force when four replicants escape from an off-world colony to Earth. (Source: IMDB)
Bladerunner is a work of art. Detailed beyond belief. Dark, brooding and depressing. I don’t remember seeing a single frame of sunshine.. always raining. The pace is methodical, so if you’re looking for fast action, look somewhere else. But, if you can sit through and make it to the end, you’ll be glad you did.
The world is a dystopian police state. As Bryant points out.. “You know the score. If you’re not cop.. you’re little people”. It’s a city of mix race and culture, the language spoken is a melding of English, German, Cantonese, Hungarian and Japanese with a heavy asian influence popping up around the crumbling buildings of Los Angeles. The neon lights can only bring out the dankness. Those healthy and wealthy enough are fleeing the earth to live in the “off world colonies”.
One of my favorite Sci-Fi Films of all time.
