If there’s one thing, Director, Guillermo del Toro knows.. it’s dark fantasy. My gawd this is a good movie, and the only reason I didn’t give it a full 4 stars, is because Hellboy 2 “The Golden Army” is even Better! One of the things I loved here is a beautiful combination of Practical Effects with CGI to compliment.. too many movies rely too heavily on CGI. And the CGI that is used, is really really good.. that is, you can hardly tell that it’s CGI… with the exception of “young hellboy” – honestly, he is too cartoonish.. but other than that, it’s awesome. This is also a good blend of Comedy with the Sci-Fantasy.. bordering on Horror. It’s just really well done.
