First off. The trailer is a lie. The trailer would have you believe that Mortdecai a bumbling art thief. When in fact, he is helping Mi5 (The British Secret Service) find the thief.. for a small profit. No really.. The man just wants to get out of debt.
Juggling angry Russians, the British Mi5, and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai races to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain a code that leads to lost Nazi gold.
This film got bad reviews by just about every professional critic, which is why you should never listen to a damned thing critics say. Hell, dont listen to me either, make up your own mind after seeing it, but I liked this one. The comedy style is very reminiscent of the old Pink Panther movies of the 60’s and 70’s.. bordering on parody. Johnny Depp is great as the proper, yet goofy Mortdecai – what Johnny lacks as a dramatic actor, he has certain made up for with his comedy, throughout the years.
I’ll go out on a limb here and state that Mortdecai is what The Pink Panther (2006) should have been.
