The Woman in Black: Angel of Death

I originally posted this review back in January, when I first saw it in the theaters. I stand by my assessment..

This weekend, I went and saw The Woman in Black: Angel of Death – There was good, bad and ugly, and here’s my take.. (Spoilers!)

40 years after the first haunting at Eel Marsh House, a group of children evacuated from WWII London arrive, awakening the house’s darkest inhabitant.

As I’ve stated before, I love Hammer Films – the old horror of the 60’s and 70’s is what I grew up with. Now, as with British Comedy (Monty Python, etc..) it’s not the same as American Horror. Sometimes that’s a good thing, and sometimes bad. The Woman in Black/2 are good movies with a good story. That being said…

Can we please stop with the Jump Scares? They’re not scarey.

When I watch a Horror movie, I want lingering effects. Old Horror had sophistication, that left you afraid to sleep without the lights on for weeks. Last years “The Woman in Black” had a lot of good qualities – but a few cheap jump scares. This years sequel.. has a lot of them. As I’ve stated before, jump scares are cheap, unimaginative and boring.

That’s not to take away from a good story, though. The movie was good, and I’ll be buying it for my collection. I will encourage my friends to see it.
