The Curse of Chucky

Admittedly, I was skeptical about this new addition to the “Child’s Play” franchise. And, with good reason. Though the original was iconic.. like so many other horror movies, the sequels reduced it to a campy shell of it’s former glory.. and many people forget the rush of watching the Good Guy doll spring to life, 25 years ago.  With that being said. Curse of Chucky is a surprisingly good horror movie, on par with the original.

After the events of Seed of Chucky, Nica, a young woman forced to a wheelchair since birth, has to regroup her sister, Barb and her brother-in-law, Ian for a funeral after the death of her mother. While dealing with Barb, Ian, along with their 5-year-old daughter, Alice; Nica receives an odd package – a creepy doll. After people start showing up dead, the fearless Nica soon suspects that the creepy doll is much more than just a doll.

Honestly, I didn’t have a lot of complaints about this one. The acting was good.. even by Summer Howel, who plays Alice (5yo). Some grief was given to the new appearance of Chucky, giving him almost a girlish look.. but not to worry, once the  veil is lifted, his true evil shines through!

I really believe that horror fanatics, and fans of the franchise will be satisfied, which is very rare in today’s cinema. After watching, I had to ask myself why this was a direct-to-video release. It was good enough for the big screen.
