Heart’s a-Flutter: ER

The rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated.

Tuesday at 1am, I woke to an odd sensation in my chest.  If a small cat was tap dancing on my sternum, it would explain it.. but there was no kitten to be found..

I’ve had palpitation of my heart for as long as i can remember, most of you call it a “Heart Flutter”, but it would normally only last a second.. it’s something I’ve just learned to live with and had no serious repercussions from.. until now.

My normal heart rate (resting) is around 80 beats per minute.  Which, I admit, is alittle high.  When I woke, my heart was racing at 179 beats per minute.

I really didn’t want to wake Elquin (Liz), so I went down stairs.. sat and tried to calm myself, but after 15 mins, the thought that I may be having a heart-attack crossed my mind and I woke her up.

I think the funniest thing about this is the fact that they didn’t get the chance to inject me to calm my heart down.. the got the I.V. going, prepped the syringe and the monitor behind me went “beep” – my heart rate had corrected itself, and I was chugging along at 80 bpm. hehe

Well, I spent the night in the hospital – terribly uncomfortable and unable to sleep.  And after a series of tests, a C-T and a EKG, I was released 14 hours after arriving.

I’m ok.  Honestly, this morning I was feeling pretty good.. right now, I’m winded..and my chest feels alittle heavy.  I guess it’s to be expected and I need to take it easy for a while.
